Dates are calculated in UTC, so the result does not shift with your time zone. Months are counted as calendar months, and a day that does not exist in the target month falls back to its last day.

About the Date Calculator

Date arithmetic looks simple until months have different lengths, leap years add a day in February, and time zones shift the calendar. This calculator works in UTC calendar days, so a difference of 365 always means 365 days wherever you are.

The difference view reports the total number of days, the same span in weeks and days, and a calendar breakdown in years, months and days. The add view moves a date by any whole number of days and shows the weekday, which helps when you schedule deadlines or check notice periods.

The count excludes the end date, so 1 January to 2 January is one day. The calculator does not account for public holidays or working-day rules, which vary by country and employer.

FAQ

Date Calculator — frequently asked

How do I count the days between two dates?

Subtract the earlier date from the later one. From 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026 is 364 days, because the end date is not counted. Counting both the first and last day gives 365 days inclusive.

Does the calculator include the end date?

No. The result counts the midnights crossed between the two dates. For an inclusive count, such as a booking that covers both the first and last night, add one day to the result.

How are months counted?

Whole calendar months are counted forward from the start date, and the remaining days are reported separately. If the start falls on the 31st and the next month is shorter, the calculation uses that month’s last day, so 31 January plus one month is 28 February in a common year.

Why does adding a month not always give the same number of days?

Months have between 28 and 31 days. That is why the calculator reports months and days separately, and why the add view works in whole days rather than months.

Do leap years affect the result?

Yes. February has 29 days in a leap year, which adds one day to any span that crosses it. Leap years are divisible by 4, except century years that are not divisible by 400, so 2100 is not a leap year.

Are business days excluded?

No. Every calendar day is counted, including weekends and holidays. Business-day counts depend on your country’s public holidays and your contract terms, so compute them separately.
